I AM Necessary

By Dr. Wilson A. Bunton Sr.

We must learn to embrace our imperfections and vulnerabilities and recognize that our uniqueness and authenticity make us truly necessary in the world. We can effect change, make the world a better place, and leave a lasting legacy that will endure long after we are gone.

However, the flip side of being necessary is the fear of being dispensable. We may worry that our skills will become outdated, our relationships will grow distant, or our contributions will be overlooked or undervalued. This fear can drive us to overextend ourselves, seek approval and validation from others, and constantly strive to prove our worth at the expense of our well-being.

To combat this fear, it is essential to cultivate a strong sense of self-worth and self-acceptance. We must remind ourselves that being necessary is not about being indispensable or perfect. It is about recognizing and embracing our strengths and weaknesses, successes and failures, and joys and sorrows. It is about acknowledging our interconnectedness with others and the world around us and recognizing the impact that we can have through our actions and words. It is about finding meaning and purpose in our lives and contributing to the greater good however we can.
In moments of doubt or insecurity, it is important to remember that we are all necessary in our ways. We uniquely combine talents, experiences, and perspectives that make us valuable and irreplaceable. By honoring our worth and recognizing the cost of others, we can create a more inclusive, compassionate, and harmonious world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
